I build AI practice partners: agents that play the other person in a conversation, such as the patient a medical student learns to interview.
I am a Ph.D. student in Industrial Design at KAIST, with a minor in Data Science, advised by Prof. Tak Yeon Lee. I build and evaluate AI practice partners, agents that play the other person in a conversation so that people can practice it. The main case is a patient that medical students can interview. I study how these partners should behave so that the person practicing improves. I have co-authored papers at CHI, CSCW and CUI.
I build my systems with hospitals and companies. Osler, a voice agent for pre-surgery breast cancer counseling, has been used by more than 100 patients in a pilot clinical study at Asan Medical Center. With Severance Hospital I am building voice-based virtual patients for psychiatric interview practice. In a project I co-led with LG Electronics, 47 practitioners used synthetic consumer agents for four months.
